The work
What the job actually involves
A pondless feature recirculates from a gravel-filled reservoir buried beneath the stream bed. Water disappears into the rock at the bottom and gets pumped back to the top. Nothing stands open.
That makes it the right call for families with small children, for properties with dogs, and for anyone who wants the effect without the maintenance a pond asks for. Less evaporation too, which matters here.
Pondless is what we build most, and it's usually what we recommend when someone asks for "a pond" without having thought much about the maintenance.

Dig the reservoir
A basin below grade, filled with gravel or matrix blocks, sized to hold the whole system's water volume.

Build the stream bed
Lined and rocked from the top down, with drop heights chosen for the sound you want.

Set the boulders
Local granite, set into the grade rather than sitting on it.

Fill and tune
Run it, adjust the rocks, and keep adjusting until it sounds right. This part is more art than spec.

What moves the number
We don't publish a price per square foot, because a number given without seeing the site is a guess that only ever moves upward. These are the things that genuinely change what this work costs — so when you compare quotes, you can see where they differ and why.

Is it really safe around small children?
There's no standing water — it disappears into gravel below grade. That's the main reason people choose it.
How much water does it lose?
Only evaporation, and less than an open pond because most of the water is underground. An auto-fill top-up is an option if you'd rather not think about it.
Can it be converted to a pond later?
Not easily. The reservoir and the pond are quite different builds, so it's worth deciding up front.
Does it run all the time?
Only when you want it to. Many customers run it on a timer or a switch — it's not a filtration system that needs continuous flow.
What maintenance does it need?
Keep leaves out of the basin, clean the pump occasionally, and shut it down before the first hard freeze. That's largely it.
