Sod installation
Sod is the fastest way to a lawn. Whether it takes depends almost entirely on what happens before it's laid.
The work
What the job actually involves
We strip and grade, amend the soil, make sure the irrigation actually covers the area, then lay and roll fresh sod with tight staggered seams. Rolling is what gets the roots into contact with soil — skip it and you get a lawn that dries out in patches.
We'll give you a straight watering schedule for the first three weeks. That period decides whether you have a lawn or an expensive rug.
Sod is the only landscaping product that arrives alive and can die within a fortnight of being installed. Everything about how we do it is aimed at the roots making contact and getting established before the weather tests them.
We'll also tell you honestly if the time of year is wrong. Laying sod into peak July heat is possible, but it needs watering discipline most people can't realistically give it.

Strip and grade
Old turf out, grade set to fall away from the house and to meet paths and drives cleanly.

Amend the soil
Compost worked in. Our native soil is low in organic matter, and this is what the roots have to grow into.

Verify the irrigation
Coverage checked before the sod arrives, not after. A dry wedge shows up within days.

Lay, stagger and roll
Tight staggered seams, then rolled for soil contact. Rolling is what stops it drying out in patches.

What moves the number
We don't publish a price per square foot, because a number given without seeing the site is a guess that only ever moves upward. These are the things that genuinely change what this work costs — so when you compare quotes, you can see where they differ and why.

Sod Installation questions
How soon can we walk on it?
Light foot traffic after about two weeks, normal use after four to six. Staying off it early matters more than people expect.
How much do I water it?
Heavily and often for the first two weeks — this is the one situation where frequent shallow watering is correct — then progressively longer and less often. We leave you a schedule.
What time of year is best?
Spring and early autumn. Mid-summer is possible but unforgiving; if you can wait for September, wait.
Sod or seed?
Sod for instant results, slopes, and anywhere that can't be closed off. Seed for large areas and budget, in autumn. We do both and will tell you which suits.
Why did my last sod fail?
Usually one of three things: no soil prep, irrigation that didn't cover, or it wasn't rolled. All three are preventable.
